I can’t believe it’s been a month since my last post—time flies when you’re living a whirlwind! Buckle up, because I have some updates to share with you.
I recently started a new part-time job—I’ve been at it for one month now and I’m really enjoying it! I get to use my coaching skills and my experience from previous hospitality and finance jobs. I’m helping entrepreneurs from underserved communities obtain resources to make their businesses thrive. It feels like a very purposeful job.
Around the same time I accepted the job, doctors found a lump in my breast. The stress this caused led to many sleepless nights and moments of uncertainty. I’m happy to share that the results were favorable. During this challenging time, some truly magical things happened that I want to share with you.
Friends and family spontaneously began prayer circles for me, checked in often, held my hand, and gave me extra love. If we’ve chatted in the last month—whether via text, in person, or on social media—you’re probably one of these people, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
On the day of my test, I was terrified. I heard it in my voice, and I just wanted to be kind to everyone—it felt like we are all in this together because we ARE. A woman sitting next to me was shaking. They brought her from the ultrasound room to wait for a biopsy, just like me. I sensed her fear, put my hand on her shoulder, and told her it’s okay to be scared, that I was scared too. I don’t know what happened to her, and she doesn’t know what happened to me, but it reminded me how important it is to be there for others, even during tough times. Focusing on others and being of service shifts the energy and helps us get out of our own heads.
Life is a rollercoaster. Sometimes we act as if we are the only ones experiencing pain or happiness, reserving it for ourselves or only sharing the good. We are complex individuals, but if we share our humanity—if we say out loud, “I’m scared”—it can make a difference. For me, it felt like being held by many people. My mom and husband, who have supported me through many scary moments, longtime friends, people I’ve recently met, and even those I’ve never met in person. Because if you ask me, “How are you?” you’re going to get the whole picture. Does that make me “too much”? Maybe to some people, but it makes me, ME.
Be kind. You don’t know which battle each of us is fighting. When we see beyond the surface, remember that we all want the same thing: to be loved, to be seen, to be remembered.
